Mr. Ian Barker and his wife Sheila are going to take part again in the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge. Ian is the Managing Director of Al Thika Packaging LLC the Gulf’s best providers of packaging machines, coding & printing machine, shrink wrapping machine, stretch wrapping machine & banding machine and much more. We supply packaging machines from world class vendors such as Robopac, Mettler-Toledo, ULMA, Endoline, Safeline, SmiPack, Markem-Imaje, ATS, Premier, Giro & Tiny Tag, throughout the Middle East.
This is the legendary UAE Desert Challenge, one of the world’s most prestigious international cross country rallies, founded by ATCUAE President Mohammed Ben Sulayem back in 1991, and, over the years has seen many of the biggest names in international motor-sport tackle the dunes of the UAE, including Carlos Sainz, Colin McRae, Ari Vatenan, and Heinz Kinigadner. The Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge begins on 1 April 2017.
NewTrix Racing – The beginning
Ian and Sheila Barker became involved in the off-roading scene almost immediately after arriving in 1991, and one thing led to another. By 2001 they were marshaling for the Desert Challenge, and in 2006 they joined the Sweep Team. They started competing in 2008 and since then they’ve had their share of triumphs and disasters (mainly the latter!). ‘The Beast’ is a 2008 Nissan Patrol with a 6 litre GM LS2 engine, twin 2.5″ Radflo shocks all round, built to FIA T1.1 (prototype) specification for cross-country rallies.
